SMOOTHIES ARE AWESOME! Not only do they taste delicious BUT they are a wonderful way to get your daily quota of fruits and vegetables. Of course, you knew that already otherwise why have a smoothie when you can have ice cream! Am I right? That being said, if the smoothie has a ton of sugar, it can counteract some of those benefits from the fruits and veggies crew. Why is sugar so bad? There are SOOOOO many reasons and I’m sure we all have heard that sugar is bad for your teeth, sugar is linked to cancer, and sugar is empty calories. But, enough about that, because this isn’t meant to be a “sugar is evil” lecture. Let’s get to the good stuff! Smoothies can be just as great without any added sugar too! So, without further ado, my 3 favorite basic healthy smoothie recipes!
Stevia sweetened smoothie:
-6 cups frozen fruit mix
-3 ½-4 cups almond milk (or whatever milk you have)
-1 ½-1 ¾ tsp stevia (I get this kind because it’s filler free and quite potent: Now Better Stevia Organic Sweetener, 4 oz.)
-½ cup chia seeds
Put the fruit into the blender first. Then add the stevia and then the milk. Blend until smooth and well combined. Stir in the chia seeds once well blended. You can drink it right away or you can let it sit in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before drinking so that the chia seeds can expand.
Makes 7-7 1/2 cups
Side note: You can add up to 4 cups of milk if you like your smoothie to have a less thick consistency. As for the stevia, I like it with just 1 1/2 tsp of stevia, but some people in my home like it with 1 3/4 tsp of stevia. My suggestion is to start with 1 1/2 tsp and add more if needed after that.
Date sweetened smoothie:
-1 1/2 cup pitted dates
-5 cup frozen fruit
-4 cups unsweetened non-dairy milk or coconut water
Put the dates in the blender first, then the fruit, then the milk. Blend until smooth.
Makes 7 1/2 cups
Stevia sweetened green smoothie:

-2 ripe bananas (preferably to the point of getting black spots on them since they’re sweeter and creamier then)
-2 cups spinach and kale (I prefer getting frozen spinach and kale)
-2 cups frozen fruit
-2 TB chia seed
-2 tsp Stevia (I get this kind: Now Better Stevia Organic Sweetener, 4 oz.)
-2 cups almond milk (or whatever milk you have)
Put the peeled bananas in first. Then add the rest of the ingredients in the order they are listed, with milk being the last ingredient. Blend until smooth.
Makes 6 cups
Side note: Even the youngest in my house likes this green smoothie which is almost a miracle because he refuses to eat veggies most of the time. He drinks this smoothie up though! So, I can sneak veggies in him that way (MWUHAHAHA!). Yes, it’s REALLY that good.

Before I sign off, I want to make quick mention of three things.
#1: I LOVE using the Organic Wawona Day Break blend (which consists of strawberries, pineapples, peaches, and mango) in my smoothie recipes. I get it at Costco and it is my go-to for the “frozen fruit” portion of my smoothie recipes. Of course, you can use any frozen fruit you like. BUT if you have a Costco membership you should try the Day Break blend. It’s so good!
#2: Do you like to drink your smoothie with a straw? If so, you should check out these reusable straws that you can purchase on Amazon. They are easy to clean (they even come with cute little cleaning brushes), they work great, they are plastic free, and they are eco-friendly. What are you waiting for? Go check them out! I wish I had sooner. I was skeptical as to how hard it would be to clean them but I should have never been concerned.

#3: The “Now” brand Better Stevia truly is the best and most potent stevia I’ve ever had. A little goes a long ways and it’s filler free! If you use another stevia when making my smoothie recipes, you may have to increase the amount of stevia used in the smoothies because most other store bought stevia just isn’t as potent. Just in case anyone was wondering, no, this isn’t a sponsored post. The Now Better Stevia REALLY IS that good. Although I linked the 4 oz. stevia in my smoothie recipes, I buy the 16 oz. one because I use it a lot and it just doesn’t make sense to get the little bottles of it.
